The Managing Director, Air Traffic Management leads air traffic management issues for the association at A4A Headquarters in Washington, DC and oversees the management and staff at the A4A Command Center Desk located at the FAA Command Center in Warrenton, VA. The scope of responsibilities includes policies associated with operations in the National Airspace System (NAS), implementation of air traffic control modernization, and issues affecting member airlines in the integration of Advanced Air Mobility, Drones and Commercial Space.

REPORTS TO: Vice President NextGen and New Entrants
GRADE: Exempt


  • Liaison between A4A air traffic management activities and FAA Air Traffic Organization (ATO), as well as NextGen, Commercial Space and UAS offices.
  • Analyze key issues, develop recommendations for advocacy strategy for leadership, including coordination with other A4A departments and implementation of agreed upon actions.
  • Generate reports, position papers, letters and statements on key issues.
  • Responsible for A4A Air Traffic Management Council, including coordination with Chair/Vice Chair, conducting meetings, maintaining communication, and maintaining the web page.
  • Represent A4A at federal and industry meetings, forums, committees and workgroups.
  • Provide notification, analysis and resolution of National Airspace System issues and notification of NAS system irregularities and development of system
  • Provide responses to member inquiries regarding NAS air traffic delays and internal and external special requests.
  • Direct A4A Command Center staff to provide services for members for air traffic management, dispatch, operations, and oversee A4A response to severe weather events.
  • Participate in Command Center meetings and activities as appropriate.



  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge/experience in FAA programs and NAS improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of airline operational management procedures, air traffic control and traffic flow management, and FAA Command Center Airline dispatch experience desirable but not required.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in related fields required.
  • Strong public speaking skills and excellent writing skills are required, with the ability to develop and deliver impactful messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to interact effectively with airline members, government and industry organizations and lead/participate in developing consensus on key issues.
  • Absolute integrity and sense of ‘fair play’ required in dealing with FAA and the Must be able to address a diverse membership to maintain an equitable playing field for all involved.
  • Experience supervising off-site (remote) employees.
  • Ability to conduct domestic/international overnight travel and periodic travel to FAA Command Center in Warrenton, VA.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.


  • All A4A employees must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
  • If approved by your department supervisors A4A employees have the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays. All employees are expected to work in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays.
