Manage association activities related to the technical operations of member-airlines of Airlines for America (A4A), including support of the A4A Engineering, Maintenance and Materiel Council (EMMC) and direction of its Airworthiness Committee, Maintenance Safety Committee and subordinate groups. This position is based in Washington, DC.

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Operations and Safety
REPORTS TO: Managing Director, Engineering and Maintenance


  • Provide strategic advice and administrative support to the EMMC and subordinate entities, comprised of technical operations professionals from association member companies, regarding significant maintenance and engineering regulatory and policy issues affecting airline operations.
  • Serve as internal subject matter expert on technical operations and secure mutual support with other A4A departments (e.g., government affairs, general counsel, communications), as required.
  • Alert member-airlines to applicable regulatory and policy initiatives of FAA and other agencies, analyze proposals in consultation with internal departments and other associations, advise members of potential benefits and impacts, gain the consensus position of members, and author and submit on-the-record responses and recommendations.
  • Prepare written advocacy documents related to technical operations, including comments on proposed regulations, position papers, correspondence, and testimony.
  • Respond to questions from the public, air carriers and government agencies on technical operations matters.
  • Effectively represent and advocate A4A’s interests within government agencies and industry groups.
  • Engage other industry stakeholders to develop and advocate industry consensus positions on technical operations
  • Manage consultants assisting with specific technical operations activities.
  • Plan and execute the annual A4A Non-Destructive Testing Forum, and A4A participation in
    bi-annual InfoShare safety forums and assist in planning and executing A4A participation in Aviation Week’s annual
    MRO conference and exhibition.
  • Provide support to the Managing Director – Engineering and Maintenance and Vice President of Operations and
    Safety, as required.




  • Bachelor of Science in aviation-related field or other appropriate 4-year technical degree.
  • Diverse aviation experience including five years experience with a major airline.
  • Demonstrated executive-level skills in written and verbal communications.
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with executive-level staff from government and private sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver persuasive messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Proven ability to create, lead, motivate and energize diverse teams.
  • Must be an assertive and effective project manager.
  • Possess good judgment, initiative, thoroughness, and ability to develop and maintain harmonious working
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and fulfill commitments.
  • Strong skills in utilizing information technology tools.


  • FAA and/or manufacturer experience with certification and airworthiness.
  • FAA Airframe/Powerplant License with Part 121 transport maintenance experience
